Redwood Genome Project Kicked Off

A project to sequence the genomes of the coastal redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) and giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) has official been kicked off! Our part in the project is in generation of long-read sequencing data to improve the quality of the genome assembly work (being done by Steven Salzberg and his team). We’re excited to be part of this collaboration led by David Neale at UC Davis. The trees are incredible! We just went out to Yosemite for the kickoff meeting and had a great time exploring.
